The light at the end of the tunnel appears! We have made much progress in the renovations of the 700 Central Ave. property to be designation as Hope’s House, our new facility for women in a housing crisis.

When we purchased the property last year there was much work needed to be done to comply with the town building codes to safely house the eight women who will be our guests. Their safety and security is always a high priority for us, along with being concerned for their Eternal Home as well.

The property is now fully fenced, entry and exits have been brought up to code, egress windows have been installed, the kitchen has been remodeled, storage space has been created, a new 200 Amp electric service has been installed, new lighting fixtures have been installed, an office has been constructed, new doors have been hung, a new moisture control system has been installed in the crawl space, security and camera systems have been installed, and a new shower installation has begun. Work still to be completed is the installation of a fire alarm system and a fire sprinkler system. That work is expected to begin within the next week or two.

We have always felt that God has blessed us with a very generous community in which we live. This has proven to be true once more. Many of the improvements mentioned above have either been donated by or deeply discounted from very generous contractors. Also many churches and organizations have donated time and labor. Thank you Lord.

DCCO has always been very careful with donors’ monies and when we had the opportunity to save money by accepting the gift from contractors and service providers we felt that was the prudent thing to do. This has caused our hopes for an earlier opening to be delayed slightly, but we feel this is the right thing to do and our supporters would understand.

We get continuous calls for beds for both women and men. We look forward to serving both the 16 guests at the Home of Hope and the eight soon at Hope’s House. Your continued financial support is still much needed as our combined operating budget is in excess of $300,000 and only about 8% comes from federal grant money. Please consider giving to DCCO in your monthly giving plans. Thank you and may God Bless you.
